Redwood River Music is an independent music company. Our publishing and record divisions promote the music of Lee Mallory, Nina Jo Smith and other performing songwriters. Lee was a founder of the California Sound and a troubadour all his life. Nina Jo returned to music after a twenty-year silence. The inspiration for Redwood River Music came from a visit to the California Redwoods. Walking through a redwood grove, I saw a great ancestor tree resting on the earth and stretching across the stream. From its side sprang new growth reaching upward for light. Looking around, I saw this process repeated endlessly into the past and future and realized I was looking at time itself. Time flows like that river, endlessly repeating its own cycle in the present. Music is the art of time that transcends time. Rhythm & melody conspire to bring us into the present. Like the redwoods, a great song seems to have always been around, even if it was just composed yesterday. When we first hear it, we feel as if we somehow already know it. When it is a great song, it stays around forever. Its author, perhaps long since forgotten, lives through the song and touches us now.  In addition to the music itself, Redwood River Music is dedicated to promoting the health of independent musicians and our earth.
