Nina Jo Smith is a natural-born Indie Grrl (born on the 4th of July). She accompanies her sweet voice and wry, wise lyrics with clean, inventive fingerpicking on 6- and 12-string guitars.

Nina Jo likes a song that can travel seamlessly from sublime to ridiculous and back again, or vice versa. And she believes in melody. Think Woody Guthrie meets Joni Mitchell in the Velvet Underground. Nina Jo calls her style "Mystical Folkabilly."

For many years, Nina Jo devoted herself to anti-violence work. She studied martial arts, taught self-defense to more than a thousand people and continues to do visionary antiviolence work. During that long silence, her art form was Tae Kwon Do.

When Nina Jo began performing music again, she discovered a renaissance of guitar-based song and receptive audiences. Nina Jo brings the focus and passion of a martial artist to her gentle music.
